Short answer: Do not copy a Dyson Supersonic filter-washing video until you know which machine and filter it describes. The UK HD07 manual says not to use water on the filter mesh. Dyson Australia’s guide for a Professional machine with a two-part filter includes washing the removable filter unit while wiping the mesh on the machine dry. Those are different components and scopes.
Two official instructions with different boundaries
| Source and scope | What the source says | Boundary to retain |
|---|---|---|
| UK Supersonic HD07 user manual, regular filter cleaning | Unplug and cool; remove debris with a lint-free cloth or soft brush; do not use water or excessive pressure on the mesh. | This is the HD07 document linked below, not every Supersonic generation. |
| Australia Supersonic Professional guide, two-part filter | Unplug and cool; wipe the machine mesh dry; wash the removed filter unit as directed and dry both parts fully before refitting. | The guide explicitly excludes a one-part filter from this procedure. |
Read the complete UK HD07 manual, PDF page 6 or the Australia Professional owner guide, “Looking after your hair dryer” for the relevant sequence. This comparison is not a substitute for the instructions supplied with your exact machine.
Identify the part before deciding whether it can be washed
Our editorial check is to keep “mesh on the machine”, “removable cage” and “removable two-part filter unit” as separate fields in a maintenance record. A video caption that says only “clean the filter” hides this distinction. If the machine label or filter construction does not match the source, stop borrowing the procedure and find the correct support document.
- Record the exact model from the machine label and the market where it was supplied. Keep the serial number private.
- Open the manufacturer support material for that model. Note whether it describes a one-part or two-part filter.
- Identify which part remains attached to the machine and which part is removed. Compare this with the guide’s photographs.
- Write the source title, URL and check date beside the intended procedure. Do not label a third-party demonstration as the manufacturer’s instruction.
- If identification is uncertain, ask Dyson support to identify the correct guide before attempting a cleaning method.
A useful salon maintenance log
| Record | Example of what belongs there |
|---|---|
| Machine identity | Model, internal salon asset code and matching support document |
| Observation | Date, visible debris or the exact light pattern observed |
| Procedure scope | Component cleaned and the manufacturer instruction followed |
| Completion | Date and whether the specified drying/refitting steps were completed |
| Unresolved issue | Support contacted and the response; do not write “repaired” without evidence |
The log is an editorial record-keeping suggestion. It does not certify electrical safety, measure airflow or prove that cleaning solved a fault. Avoid writing a universal monthly wash schedule based on these two examples: a maintenance interval and permission to wash a particular part are separate questions.
Keep troubleshooting within the matching guide
The HD07 manual says that if all three red lights continue to flash, contact the Dyson helpline and do not turn the machine back on. The Professional page describes its own indication and support path. Record the exact symptom rather than combining instructions from different versions or repeatedly restarting a machine to see whether a problem disappears.
