Dyson Airwrap White Flashing Light: How to Clean the Filter Safely

Short answer: Dyson’s Airwrap support page says a flashing white LED indicates that it is time to clean the filter. Turn the styler off, unplug it and let it cool before maintenance. Then follow the steps for your exact Airwrap model; the official video distinguishes cleaning the filter cage from brushing debris off the filter mesh.

What the white flash tells you

On Dyson’s Airwrap support page, the flashing white LED is a filter-cleaning prompt. It is not, by itself, proof of a motor failure or a reason to open the appliance. If the light remains after the official cleaning steps, the unit behaves differently from the guide, or you have another warning, use the model-specific troubleshooting page or contact Dyson support.

Model-safe cleaning sequence

  1. Switch off, unplug and cool. Dyson’s video explicitly says to disconnect the device from mains power and allow the machine and attachments to cool before maintenance.
  2. Brush the outside of the filter cage. Slide the supplied filter-cleaning brush over the cable onto the cage and rotate it around the cage to loosen debris.
  3. Remove the cage as shown for your model. The video slides it down the cable, opens it at the split and removes it. If your model’s manual shows a different mechanism, follow that manual.
  4. Wash the removable cage only as directed. Dyson’s video rinses the cage under warm running water, taps off excess water and leaves it to dry naturally.
  5. Clean the mesh with the brush. The video uses an up-and-down brushing motion on the filter mesh until debris is removed. It does not show washing the mesh.
  6. Dry and refit. Let the cage dry naturally, open it, slide it back over the cable and move it toward the handle until it snaps into place. Do not operate the styler with a wet or incorrectly seated cage.

Checks before you switch it on

Check What good looks like Stop if…
Power Device remained unplugged during cleaning You cannot safely disconnect it
Drying Removable cage is fully dry Moisture remains or the mesh was rinsed
Fit Cage is reinstalled and seated as shown in your manual It does not lock or the parts differ from the guide
Warning light Recheck after correct reassembly Flash continues or a new fault appears

Do not generalize cleaning instructions across models

Airwrap generations and regional variants can differ. The current support page links model-specific guides and manuals; use the product selector or the model number on your device. This article follows Dyson’s published Airwrap filter-cleaning video and general support page, not an independent repair test. Do not disassemble the motor or put the main styler in water.
